With the snap of a finger
Came the dark of the night

While we dreamt came the winter 
And the bright northern lights
While snowflakes fell on our heads and crystallized

We would both roll our eyes
As we woke up and felt all paralyzed

Summer's almost gone and I am sitting on the sidewalk
At a place I love and used to call my own
Everything looks quite the same I’m guessing nothing much has changed 
Except maybe the writing on the wall 
Just below the silver moon that hangs above my head
My shadow forms a shattered silhouette 

And I begin to realize
How I look in my disguise
Like a private eye that hasn’t got a clue
Shooting stars are standing still
I don’t know what I should feel
Times are changing rapidly for me and you

Falling on my knees halfway awake and half asleep I throw a fit 
And start to laugh just like a fool
Someone drew a map of my illusions on the pavement 
That in dreams could lead directly back to you
While thinking could I change myself completely if I tried?
As water starts to fall down from the sky

I let go and wash away
In the cold September rain
And recall your touch with every breath I take
When you left out of the blue
My heart stopped and broke in two 
While the world turned and the earth began to shake

Wrapped in a giant cocoon
Thinking you should've gone fishing instead
Breathing into a balloon   
Light like a cloud as you lie in your bed  
Staring straight into the moon  
You feel out of time and both young and old  

Days come and go and you fly like a dove
To Jupiter, Venus and Mars
Suddenly singing comes from up above
Backed by the sound of guitars 
Could be the voice of someone that you love
Calling from under the stars or 
Maybe the sound of the sun gone cold 

If you believe there’s a god in the sky
Give me a kiss on the chin 
Someone or something that keeps us alive
Through heavenly forces within 
Some kind of power that makes us ask why
And how on earth it all did begin through
Whispers that echo across the world 

Echoes that shower like oceans of rain 
Dripping down into your ears
A noise that is soothing but hard to explain
The prettiest you'll ever hear
Making you feel you've got nothing to lose
It could be the gods up above          
Or maybe the sound of someone you love
